Personal: Hobbies

3D Animation This probably classifies as my most active hobby. I love 3D animation, although I don't have strong artistic skills. I try to compensate with my excellent technical skills and oodles of time (which I spend on my hobby in lieu of socializing and having fun).
Botany
Trichocerius peruvianis, Belladonna, Leonorus leonora, and many others. Spot the theme? Heh.
Coin-Op Arcade Coin Operated Arcade Machines were really neat when I was a kid. They seem a lot less cool now, however at 30 years of age, the coolness factor is not yet negative. My roommates and I have about 35 arcade games, 3 pinball machines, 10 slot machines, a pachinko machine, and a video poker.
Game Programming I occassionally write video games. I used to do this a lot on the amiga with my good friend Zathoros. I've worked on a few games for the PC, but never really got to a release phase on any of them. I need a good programming buddy to help keep me motivated.
Mycology Psilocybin cubensis. much like my botany interests.
Painting I have painted less than a dozen paintings, but egostically enough, I still consider it a hobby of mine. My girlfriend Akiko is much better at me.
Paragliding I've never actually been in the air, but I've been to 5 lessons, and I have all of my own equipment. With any luck, 2004 will be the year I get airborn!
Photography Mostly digital photography. I have a huge collection of photos. I consider these to be royalty free, and plan to provide all of them here on my site.
Pirate Radio I built a pirate radio transmitter. It wasn't very good quality, so I built a second one. It kinda sucked, too. Then I built the Ramsey FM-100 from a kit. It is an all-digital stereo tansmitter. When it was finished, I knew that I was truly ready to become a pirate radio DJ. I powered it up, and lifted my microphone to my lips. "Uh...". I had nothing to say. I wasn't angry about anything specific. I didn't have much in the way of opinions. I didn't feel like talking. I turned it off, and it's been off ever since. My long-term goal is to make a Linux-based web-controlled random MP3 radio station. Don't hold your breath.
Psilocybin While it is illegal, I enjoy Psilocybin mushrooms on rare occassions (like every few years!). Nonetheless, I grow my own when I choose to do it, so it seems like a legitimate hobby rather than a sleazy drug habit.
Rock Climbing I don't do this often enough, but this is -- in my opinion -- the most interesting exercise.
Scuba This is a way to explore strange new worlds. On earth. I love scuba diving. Being in Dallas, it takes a vacation to enjoy this "sport", but it's well worth it.
Sky Diving Okay, I've never done this. But I want to!
Video Editing I actually tried to make a profession of it, but that didn't work out too well. I still play with this occassionally. The tools are so simple, it's hard to think of it as a legitimate skill, but... I do it.
Web Development It's my profession, but hey... check this out. I have a personal web site. Many, even. It's a hobby, too!
