Microsoft Sharepoint Portal Server
This page is meant to collect problems I've encountered and solutions I've
come across.
Symptom: When I click on "Site Settings" and then select "Configure
search and
indexing", I get the error "The gatherer index was not initialized. The content
index must be remounted. If the index is still not initialized, remove it."
Symptom: When I try to do a search in SharePoint Portal Server,
I get the error
"Your search encountered an error. If the problem persists, contact the portal
site
administrator."
Problem: The Sharepoint Portal Server Content Access Account
may be disabled, the password may have expired or changed, or other password
policies may be
preventing
a service from running under the account name.
Resolution: Open Sharepoint Portal
Server Central Administration. Navigate
to
"Manage the search service". Navigate to "Configure account and proxy settings".
Verify that user accounts are configured correctly. Click OK.
Note: I had a circumstance where the boxes were grayed out because the sharepoint
service account was being used for these accounts. The password changed recently,
but the sharepoint service account was configured properly elsewhere on the server,
so I assumed that it would inherit the correct passwords. This was not the case.
I checked "specify account" for each, entered the service account, and the new
password and then click "OK". This fixed the problem, and when I brought these
properties back up, the "specify account" boxes were unchecked, and the fields
were
greyed (just like the original screen looked).
