This page is meant to collect problems I've encountered and solutions I've come across.

Problem: USB and other plug-and-play devices do not install. When you try to run the "Add Hardware" wizard, you get an error that says "You can only install one device at a time. Another Device Installation is underway, when it is finished you can try this wizard again."

Solution: I have only had this problem once. The cause was the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\SETUP\FactoryPreInstallInProgress . This registry key can be set to 0, or deleted.
