Personal: Likes & Dislikes
My favourite color is black. I also really like dark blue, burgandy,
dark purple, bright red, forest green, and other deep and dark colors.
I've always had an affinity for turtles. I've always thought they were
neat creatures, and I would classify it as my "favorite". I have a large
plush turtle on my bed, and it represents my only plush toy. I like animals
in general, however, and am especially fond of horses, cats, and dogs.
I once got to play with a tiger cub.
For clothing materials, I prefer leather, velvet, pvc, satin, denim,
and stainless steel. I prefer longer-cut clothing (less revealing), and
unless it has some decorative purpose, I won't spend much on it. (I'll
never spend $50 on a pair of generic-looking denim jeans, and I'll never
spend $50 on a pair of dress slacks -- which basically fulfill a work
requirement rather than any personal interest. I might, however spend
$200 on a pair of long pile faux-fur leopard print jeans).
Movies
- A Fish Called Wanda (excellent Comedy)
- Akira ("A" for attitude. A bit desperate on plot and dialogue)
- Alien (classic! My fave alien flick, since I love the ambience in
this film)
- Aliens (Yeah, it's good too. Scarier, but less like a horror flick...)
- Blade Runner (I've seen it hundreds of times, and can't watch it anymore,
but I still get happy when I see a scene)
- Dante's Peak (See, I didn't get burned out by 70's disaster movies!)
- Deep Impact (mushy, sentimental movie. I'm not gay. I swear)
- Disney's Toy Story
- Disney's Toy Story 2 (still fun!)
- Disney's The Little Mermaid (fave disney flick)
- Disney's Beauty and the Beast (my first get-laid date)
- Disney's Mulan (probably the best Disney movie, yet!)
- Fight Club (yeah, me and 1/2 of everyone else)
- James Bond (in general... nothing specific, since they all blur pleasantly
together)
- Princess Mononoke
- Matrix (yeah, me and everyone else)
- Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead (heh!)
- Star Wars IV: A New Hope(24 years, and still great!)
- Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back
- Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi (well, I don't like the stupid muppets)
- Volcano
Television:
A little Caveat on TV. I haven't really watched television in years.
I've caught little snippets, but apart from an unpleasant bit of unemployment
in late 1998, I've been virtually TV-Free for 7 years. It's not
that I have anything against television... I just don't like Commercials,
and
there's rarely something on that's worth watching. I mean... c'mon...
I have thousands of DVDs, VHS tapes, Laserdiscs, computer games, and
unfinished
projects, and any of these things win out against commercial-ridden low
quality programming. But I do miss a handful of shows...
- 3rd Rock (only saw a few, but looked interesting)
- A-Team (I pity da fool)
- Animaniacs (the best american comic cartoon)
- Babylon 5 (only saw a few of these, but boy was it cool!)
- Britass Empire (BBC, Chris Barrie being an administrative goof!)
- Cheers
- Cowboy Bebop (best show ever made, IMHO)
- Doctor Who (BBC, lots of fun!)
- Dukes of Hazzard (What a brilliant idea for a show!)
- Frasier
- Friends
- Futurama (only saw one of these, but it was funny as hell!)
- Giligan's Island (I've seen so few of these, that I still like them.
Most people burned out)
- Home Improvement (most recent family sit-com I watched)
- Kindred: The Embraced (show's cancelled, because the immortal guy
dies.)
- Knight Rider (David Hasselhoff, and that cool computerized Firebird!)
- Lexx (I've only seen the first season. It was good!)
- Married with Children
- Pride and Prejudice (A&E teams up with BBC to bring this great
series together!)
- Red Dwarf (BBC, I have all of these on Video Tape)
- Robotech (I'm a bit worn out on it, but fine anime)
- Scooby Doo (Ah... the nostalgia)
- SeaQuest DSV (only saw a few of these, wish I could see more)
- Simpsons (yeah, along with everyone else)
- Star Trek: The Original Series ( have most of these on DVD, now)
- Star Trek: The Next Generation (movie quality effects, and PBS quality
personalities.. but it's fun)
- Star Trek: Voyager (didn't catch very many of these, but I liked them
best!)
- Tenchi Muyo OVA (great anime!)
- Tenchi in Tokyo (great anime!)
- Tenchi Universe (great, so far!)
- Trigun (started great, but got worse)
- Unhappily Ever After
- X-Files
- Xena: Warrior Princess (only seen a few of these, but it's fun in
it's way)
That's a lot of favourite shows for somebody who doesn't watch TV. I'm
sure I'm missing a lot, too. TV was my life, once upon a time. Actually,
the list is looking really small, now that I look at it. Of course, Fox
used to run Star Trek: TNG twice a night, Simpsons, and Married With Children,
so that's 3 hours a night that ran forever... Plus there is a world of
80's family sit-coms I'll never admit to liking... even when I was an
infant, and didn't know better.
Music:
Here we come to a bummer for me. For whatever reason, I wasn't exposed
to much music when I was young. My parents were pretty religious, too,
so beyond my 3rd world Saudi Arabian exposure to classy 80's pop, my parents
wanted to keep me away from that. So... I don't know much about music.
Here goes:
- The Buggles
- The Cars
- The Cure (but like a half-way human type, I get sick of it, fast)
- Def Leppard
- Depeche Mode
- Devo
- INXS
- Madonna (nostalgia factor)
- The Moody Blues
- Nine Inch Nails
- Pink Floyd
- The Police
- Portishead
- REM
- Suzanne Vega (Blood Makes Noise!)
- U2
Geez... Even with 1500 songs in MP3, I still can't manage much of a list...
How about types of music I like:
- Celtic
- Classical (symphony)
- Dance
- Hard Rock
- Heavy Metal
- Jazz (some jazz)
- New Age
- New Wave
- Pop (female vocalists, mostly)
- Progressive (Jean Michel Jarre, Vangelis, Future Sound of London,
etc...)
- Punk
- Techno (ambient, trance, acid, not house)
probably more importantly, music I don't like:
- Barbershop Quartets (don't like human voices)
- Big Band (noisy rubbish)
- Choir (don't like human voices)
- Christian Rock (not that I've ever really given it a chance...)
- Classic Rock
- Country (My x-roommate Dave softened me up on this, so I can tolerate
a fair amount)
- Folk Rock
- Folk Music
- Hippy Rock (Peter, Paul, and Mary)
- Hymns
- Rap
- Rock-a-billy
